Citizens West residents have free access to our carshare program — a short-term car rental service.
Three Steps to Sign Up
1. Sign the User Agreement
Head to the leasing office to fill out the User Agreement — the legal documentation between you, the user, and the property owner. We file this agreement with your lease with the option to renew each leasing cycle. By signing you agree to these rules:
- Only registered users may drive the Carshare vehicles.
- The maximum reservation is two consecutive days.
- You must return the Carshare vehicles to their designated parking space at the end of use.
2. Download and Register for the Envoy App
Envoy manages the Citizens West Carshare program with the help of an onsite team. You will use the Envoy app for reserving, unlocking, starting vehicles, reporting emergencies, and getting help. To sign up, you will need:
- Your smartphone
- Your driver’s license
- A credit/debit card - you will only be charged if you incur fines. The carshare team will help to pre-load your account with credits.
- DOWNLOAD Search "Envoy Mobility" in your smartphone app store. The Envoy App icon should be blue and white only. There is an older version that is blue, white and red called “Envoy There.” That app will not work.
- REGISTER. Open Envoy and follow the prompts to create an account. Envoy approves many users within minutes, but it may take up to 48 hours. If you see a “processing” status for longer than 48 hours, contact info@envoythere.com.
- ADD LOCATION. Add your location, which is searchable by either "Citizens West" or "533 N 300 W," then email carshare@givgroup.org for the access code.
3. Take the Car Share Survey
Start Using the Carshare!
Reserve a vehicle
Book the Bolt for minutes, hours, or up to two days! On the home screen, tap on the highlighted blue text that says "I want a car today for 1 hour and 00 minutes starting at Select a Time" to change your reservation details. If you want to book the next available car, scroll down and select from the options with the car photo. Once you have selected your reservation details, scroll down and click "Proceed to Payment". Confirm details on the next page and click "Confirm Booking".
For your first few trips, plan for extra time. Getting settled into the vehicle takes a few minutes. At the end of your session, you’ll need to tidy up the car, grab any personal belongings and plug the car in to charge.
Where are the cars located?
Both vehicles are located in the northeast corner of the interior parking garage. Each carshare stall is labeled and reserved; the same goes for the EV chargers.
Begin Reservation and unlock the car
Before you get in the vehicle, make sure to do a quick scan for and report and previous damage so that you're not responsible. Press "Start Ride". Make sure you are standing near the car and click "Connect". Your bluetooth must be turned on. NOTE: CONNECTING TO THE CAR MAY TAKE A FEW TRIES. MOVE CLOSER TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND TRY CONNECTING SEVERAL TIMES IF IT DOES NOT WORK AT FIRST. Once the car is connected, you will be able to use the Envoy app to unlock, lock, and start the car. Once inside the vehicle, all you need to do is press the vehicle's "on" button while pushing the brake.
End reservation
Return the vehicle to its designated parking space at Citizens' West. Remove all belongings and trash. Lock the doors. Plug the charger into the car. Click "End Ride" in the Envoy app and then follow all the prompts to end your trip.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT OR EXPERIENCE AN EMERGENCY?
In an accident or emergency, the first step is always your personal safety. The second step is to call 911.
If the accident is not an emergency, but you still need the police, Salt Lake City’s non-emergency number is: (801) 799-3000.
After you are safe and the proper authorities are contacted, contact Envoy: info@envoythere.com
OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE?
If the vehicle has any issues before or during your trip, your first step is to contact Envoy. In addition to Envoy’s customer support [(888) 610-0506], we have additional roadside coverage. All vehicle maintenance, repairs, etc., should be managed by Envoy and the carshare team.
Booking a trip
- If the car is not listed available on the app, but is at Citizens West, contact Envoy.
- If you cannot finalize a trip, contact Envoy.
- If you don not have credit/money for a trip, contact Envoy
Connecting to the car
- If you are in the garage or parking lot and the app doesn’t connect to the car:
- Turn off your Bluetooth and reconnect.
- Go somewhere with wifi and make sure the trip is still booked.
- Call Envoy
- If you are out and about and you cannot connect to unlock the car:
- Turn off your Bluetooth and reconnect.
- Go somewhere with wifi and make sure the trip is still booked.
- Call Envoy
Unlocking the car
- You must rate the exterior of the car before you are able to unlock it.
- If you have done this and it still does not unlock, call Envoy.
Starting the car
- If you have tried pushing the button to start the car and you get a message that the key is not in the car, press the lock car button in the Envoy app. Try to press the button to start the car again. If you are still unable to start the car, call Envoy.
Ending your ride
- If you are not able to end your ride through the app, call Envoy and they can end it for you. Make sure to do this so that you do not incur any late fees.
About the Chevy Bolt
EV Charging Basics
The charging port is located at the front left fender on the Bolts, ahead of the driverside door. You can park nose-in or backend-in; the charging cables should reach. The chargers at Citizens West are level 2 chargers; our Bolts take about 8 hours to charge from empty to full.
Chevy Bolt Dashboard
The dashboard gives you important indicators about the status of your charge.
On the left, you can see the maximum, minimum, and current range. Fully charged, both vehicles have a range of about 200 miles.
On the right, you see how much electricity the car is either generating or using as you drive.
Some things that can affect your total range are:
- Quick Acceleration - similar to internal combustion engines, EVs use more battery power during quick accelerations or aggressive driving.
- Braking - EVs have regenerative braking, which means you get a slight charge when you slow down.
- Temperature - batteries run out of charge more quickly when it is cold outside. Keep an eye on your range in the winter if you’ve got a big trip planned.
- Elevation Gain / Loss - EVs expend a lot of energy going up hills but gain a lot of power going downhill.
EV Driving Basics
ACCELERATION
You might be surprised by how zippy the Bolts are. When you press on the pedal, power is delivered instantly, meaning that EV's generally accelerate much more quickly than the average internal combustion engine.
BRAKING
The brakes in an EV are regenerative. This means that some of the energy produced by braking goes back to the batteries. The longer and more smoothly you brake, the more power you will generate.
NOISE
EVs generate less noise than most other vehicles. Pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers might not be able to hear you.
FINDING CHARGERS
For most trips, you shouldn’t need to recharge the Bolt. If you do need a charger, we like Plugshare. Plugshare has up-to-date maps available on the web and in its free iOS/Android app.
